About Rhyena Halpern, FMCHC

Rhyena is a Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach and former massage therapist.  For as long as she can remember, she has been passionate about using her intuition to facilitate healing. Her mission is to be a loving and bold agent for change for her clients, holding the space for self exploration and new directions.

As a life coach and wellness ally, Rhyena is devoted to serving as a facilitator of change, whether the focus is on health and wellness in the face of chronic disease; recovering from autoimmune and thyroid disease; stress, perfectionism, esteem, food and self-image issues; major life change for those in the midst of transition involving employment status change, child rearing change, care-taking change, major health change, or designing their “third act”; or end of life concerns.

On her own health journey, Rhyena has extensively explored functional medicine, acupuncture, holistic nutrition, detoxification, homeopathy, herbs, yoga, pranayama, meditation, therapeutic massage, chiropractics, and naturopathy to successfully address her misdiagnosed autoimmune thyroid disease, adrenal dysfunction, asthma, chronic back pain, interstitial cystitis, overuse of antibiotics due to chronic infections, systemic candida, hormonal imbalances, headaches, brain fog, muscle pain, heavy metal toxicity, carpal tunnel, anxiety and recovery from emotional trauma.

She began meditating, doing yoga and following a mainly plant-based diet at the age of 14, beginning a life-long adventure with holistic nutrition, health and healing. Rhyena sees the epidemic of chronic disease and autoimmunity as a result of chronic inflammation as the result of the SAD- the Standard American Diet- as well as environmental toxins, the over-reliance on prescription drugs, and living out of balance with high amounts of stress and anxiety.  She believes modern healthcare is good at managing acute, not chronic disease and that holistic medicine is the solution for complex, integrated health issues. She believes that disease is not inevitable!  Diabetes, heart disease, cancer, SIBO, intestinal permeability, polycystic ovarian disease, etc. are not inevitable!

Rhyena has explored psychological and sociological origins of self-esteem, body image, addiction and stress. She is an avid student of integrated healing. She is thrilled to be part of the integrated medicine movement that is close to reaching a tipping point and disrupt the healthcare industry forever.

Rhyena  has participated in several of Parker Palmer’s Circle of Trust Retreat series, has a long-time meditation and yoga practice, and is a trained mediator and hospice volunteer.  She has studied many different healing arts modalities.  She received her B.A. from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA and her M.F.A from California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, CA, and was a Kellogg National Leadership Fellow. As an arts manager and leader, documentary filmmaker, and adjunct faculty member, Rhyena has worked in many environments and for the public, private and nonprofit sectors.  She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her spouse and has beautiful grown, twin daughters.
